Licensed Professional Counselor

Xin Qian

LPC

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families across a wide range of emotional, behavioral, relational, developmental, and mental health concerns. I also provide play therapy, parenting support, mental health assessments, and court-ordered services.

My approach is integrative, practical, and tailored to each client. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, Adlerian approaches, and existential perspectives. I work with clients to understand both the patterns that shape their lives and the practical changes that can help them move forward.

Children and Play Therapy

I work with children beginning around age 4 and have extensive experience with children and adolescents. My background as an elementary school counselor gave me direct experience with the emotional, behavioral, academic, and family challenges that children often face.

With younger children, I use Child-Centered Play Therapy to help them express feelings, process experiences, and build coping skills in a developmentally appropriate way. Play can give children a way to communicate when they may not yet have the words to explain what they are experiencing.

I work with children experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, emotional dysregulation, anger, behavioral concerns, grief, trauma, attachment difficulties, Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD), and other developmental or emotional concerns.

ADHD, Autism, and Neurodivergence

I work with children, teens, and adults with ADHD, autism, and other neurodivergent presentations.

Therapy may focus on executive functioning, emotional regulation, communication, confidence, relationships, school or work demands and developing strategies that fit the individual rather than expecting them to function in ways that do not match their needs.

I also support parents navigating school systems, IEPs, and 504 plans so they can better advocate for their child and understand available supports.

Anxiety, OCD, and Emotional Regulation

I work with anxiety in many forms, including excessive worry, social anxiety, overthinking, panic, perfectionism, and difficulty managing uncertainty.

I also work with OCD, intrusive thoughts, and compulsive patterns, helping clients understand the cycles that keep anxiety going and develop healthier ways of responding.

For clients struggling with anger, irritability, impulsive reactions, or emotional outbursts, therapy may focus on identifying triggers, improving emotional regulation, strengthening communication, and developing healthier coping strategies.

Depression and Complex Mental Health Concerns

I work with depression, low motivation, hopelessness, low self-esteem, self-criticism, and difficulty feeling connected to a sense of direction or purpose.

I am also comfortable working with more complex mental health concerns, including Borderline Personality Disorder, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, serious mental illness, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm.

My goal is to understand the whole person rather than reduce someone to a diagnosis.

Trauma, Grief, and Attachment

I work with clients who have experienced trauma, including childhood trauma, abuse, difficult family experiences, and other overwhelming events.

I also support clients through grief and loss, including death, separation, major changes, and other experiences that significantly alter a person’s life.

Attachment and relationship patterns are an important part of my work. Many people carry patterns from earlier relationships into adulthood, and therapy can help identify those patterns, understand how they affect current relationships, and develop healthier ways of connecting.

Couples, Families, and Parenting

I provide couples and family therapy in addition to individual counseling.

I work with couples experiencing communication problems, conflict, emotional disconnection, trust concerns, anger, and other relationship difficulties.

I also provide family therapy and parenting support. This may include helping families improve communication, manage behavioral concerns, strengthen parent-child relationships, and create healthier patterns at home.

Court-Ordered Services

I provide court-ordered therapy and assessment services, including cases involving anger management, family concerns, behavioral health requirements, and other court-related treatment needs.

When court involvement is part of the case, I work to clarify the purpose of services, understand the requirements involved, and provide appropriate clinical care while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

Career, Identity, and Life Transitions

I also work with clients navigating career concerns, identity development, life transitions, and questions about direction, belonging, and purpose.

These concerns may involve changes in school, work, relationships, family roles, adulthood, or other major transitions.

Mandarin-Speaking Services

I am fluent in Mandarin Chinese and welcome individuals and families who prefer to receive counseling in either English or Mandarin.

我会说中文。无论您是在为孩子寻找支持,还是希望更好地理解自己、改善关系或面对人生中的变化,我都会提供一个尊重、专业且非评判的空间,帮助您找到适合自己的方向。
