Jonathan Emmons
As a school psychologist for the past 3 years, I have enjoyed working with multidisciplinary teams to work on complex assessment cases and plan services for a wide range of needs for school-age children while working in settings from pre-K to post-secondary transition programs. I have seen cases involving traumatic brain injury, intellectual disability, specific learning disabilities, autism, and emotional/behavioral difficulties. I have also often witnessed the complex and troubling experiences from home that students bring with them to school. These students rely on the mental health expertise of school-based professionals and are seeking connection with those who have a genuine interest in their experiences and unique needs.
The school-family connection is vital in supporting struggling youth, yet families often end up needing additional support. Part of my passion for exploring opportunities to provide services in a clinical setting comes from wanting to directly work with students and their families to strengthen their skills across many domains and provide support outside of the school environment, which may in and of itself be a stressor for students. I specialize in providing assessment services for children to provide the necessary insight to families as to how their child learns, how they think, and how they interact with others. Whether or not testing leads to a formal diagnosis, it is often an important first step in determining what level of support is needed. I have been trained in an extensive number of cognitive, academic, social/emotional, adaptive, and neuropsychological assessments and I specialize particularly in ADHD, Autism, and psychoeducational evaluations.
Growing up in a household where one of my family members experienced profound mental health challenges (Bipolar and multiple personalities), serving the needs of those who struggle with their mental and emotional well-being has always been at the forefront of my studies and career path. And as a parent to children who face their own mental health challenges, I am incredibly committed to providing my expertise to families and letting them know that there is hope and help for them.
