LMLPLicensed Master’s Level Psychologist
Derrick Jeffries
LMLP, Licensed Master’s Level Psychologist
I’m a Licensed Master’s Level Psychologist who works with children ages 8 and older, adolescents, and adults experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, relationship, and mental health concerns. I also provide couples and family therapy and psychological assessments.
I believe therapy should be a place where you feel heard and understood, but also a place where meaningful change happens. My approach is supportive, collaborative, and practical. Together, we’ll work to understand what is contributing to the difficulties you’re experiencing, identify what you want to change, and develop strategies you can use in everyday life.
Individual Therapy
I enjoy working with individuals with a wide variety of needs, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism and neurodivergence, OCD, trauma and PTSD, anger, emotional regulation difficulties, perfectionism, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and more complex mental health conditions.
For clients with ADHD and executive functioning difficulties, therapy can address challenges with focus, procrastination, organization, time management, motivation, impulsivity, follow-through, and emotional regulation. I also work with autistic and other neurodivergent clients who may need support with anxiety, relationships, communication, emotional regulation, executive functioning, self-understanding, or navigating expectations at school, work, and home.
I work with clients experiencing OCD and intrusive thoughts, including concerns involving compulsions, checking, contamination fears, reassurance seeking, and other obsessive patterns. When appropriate, I incorporate Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) into treatment.
I also work extensively with anxiety, including excessive worry, social anxiety, perfectionism, fear of failure, overthinking, and difficulty feeling confident in social situations. For clients struggling with depression, low self-esteem, shame, or self-criticism, therapy can focus on developing healthier patterns while building confidence, self-worth, and a greater sense of direction.
Trauma, Emotional Regulation, and Complex Concerns
I work with individuals who have experienced trauma, including childhood trauma, abuse, domestic violence, and other difficult or overwhelming experiences. Treatment is individualized to help clients process what they have experienced while developing healthier ways of responding to emotions, relationships, and stressful situations.
I also work with clients experiencing anger, irritability, aggression, impulsivity, and difficulty controlling emotional reactions. Therapy can help identify triggers, improve emotional regulation, strengthen communication, and develop healthier ways of responding to conflict.
My experience also includes working with Borderline Personality Disorder, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, serious mental illness, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm. I am comfortable working with clients whose concerns do not fit neatly into a single diagnosis and believe it is important to understand the whole person rather than simply treating a diagnostic label.
Children, Teens, and Families
I work with children beginning around age 8 and with adolescents experiencing anxiety, ADHD, autism, emotional or behavioral difficulties, anger, depression, social challenges, low self-esteem, family conflict, and other concerns.
I also partner with parents when children are struggling with defiance, outbursts, aggression, behavior problems, or parent-child conflict. I incorporate Parent Management Training (PMT) when appropriate to help parents develop practical strategies for setting expectations, responding to difficult behaviors, improving communication, and strengthening the parent-child relationship.
Family therapy may also be incorporated when improving communication and relationships within the family is an important part of treatment.
Relationships and Couples Therapy
I provide couples therapy for partners experiencing communication difficulties, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, trust concerns, anger, and other relationship challenges. I also work individually with clients dealing with relationship stress, boundaries, communication difficulties, jealousy, breakups, family relationships, and unhealthy interpersonal patterns.
When appropriate, I incorporate Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to help clients better understand the emotional and relational patterns underlying conflict and disconnection.
Psychological Assessments
In addition to therapy, psychological assessment is an important part of my work. I provide evaluations for ADHD as well as assessment of cognitive functioning, personality, mood, anxiety, adaptive functioning, and complex diagnostic questions.
I value a comprehensive approach to assessment. Rather than focusing only on a test score or single diagnosis, my goal is to understand the individual’s strengths, difficulties, history, and current functioning so that the results can lead to useful recommendations and an appropriate treatment plan.
My Approach
My primary therapeutic approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and I integrate other evidence-based approaches depending on each client’s needs. These may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Parent Management Training (PMT).
I may be a good fit if you are looking for a psychologist who can work with both straightforward and complex concerns while keeping therapy practical and individualized. Whether you are looking for help with a specific problem, trying to better understand yourself, improving an important relationship, or seeking diagnostic clarification through psychological testing, my goal is to help you understand what is happening and identify meaningful ways forward.
